As a student athlete, I can’t begin to describe the amount of anticipation that builds before a season. Since our season begins in the spring, we have had a long but productive wait since school first started back in August. Everyone on the team becomes more anxious by the day, waiting in excitement for Thursday’s trip to The University of Kentucky, a big SEC school. All athletes of all calibers know how thrilling that first game of the season is. For the Buffalo Bulls baseball team, that moment is this Friday. Follow us, and all other teams at UB, on BuffaloBulls.com. We all appreciate your support. GO BULLS!

Hello again fellow UB addicts,

The spring semester has finally started up today after a month off for winter break. What a relaxing, travel-filled, yet family oriented break it was. I couldn’t ask for anything better; however, I am all suited up and ready for this semester. I plan on setting aside one or two days a week to spend a few hours at the library reviewing for my classes…a study tool I’d suggest to everyone. This should be very helpful in the long run and make studying for tests much easier. I hope everyone had a great break and is looking forward to the new year.

Yours in blogging,

Matt

The past few weeks, my life has been all about competing on the field and in the classroom. We had a long road trip over spring break where we played in Virginia and North Carolina for an immense 11 game trip. Baseball has been a great time so far, and the team comradery is at an all time high. Aside from baseball, I just finished a big stretch of tests, as it’s common for teachers to give their second test of the semester once students come back from Spring Break. Although some students may prefer to take these tests right before Spring Break starts, I thought it was helpful to have the extra time off to relax and study in my spare time.

Go Bulls!

This past week, UB’s Distinguished Speaker Series had Arnold Schwarzenegger come to Alumni Arena to speak to students and the people of Buffalo. Arnold has been an idol of mine for quite some time now. I’ve been reading some of his books on bodybuilding and his journey into America. Arnold spoke of bodybuilding, acting, and politics. His main conclusion to his talk was that you should never be afraid to fail whether it’s life, sports, relationships, or school. He’s a great motivational speaker, and I’m lucky I got to hear him here at UB.

With well over a month off of school, I feel it’s important to stay mentally prepared for the upcoming semester. Sure, it’s nice to get away from class for a while, but there’s no sense in letting your brain rot. It’s important to stay active over break, and here are a few ways I like to do so: read a book-I’m currently reading SUPERTRAINING by Mel Siff. Go to the gym-It helps you stay in shape and relaxes your mind as well as your body. Endorphins are released when you workout which can help fight off stress. Get a job-It would be nice to have a little extra spending money in your pocket when you go back to school. Hit the slopes-snowboarding or skiing can be a great activity to ease your mind. Anything else you like to do can help gear up your mind for when school rolls around in mid January .

SPORTS UPDATE: Men’s Basketball 79-47 Win; Women’s Basketball 58-42 Win

Many of you who are reading this post right now may likely be a prospective student for The University at Buffalo. As your senior year inches near graduation, many important deadlines are out there that need to be met. For UB, the deadline to apply for enrollment in the 2011 year is December 31st. Whether UB is your primary choice for college or not, it’s important to get this paperwork done as soon as possible. You don’t want to get turned down from your first choice of schooling without applying to your second and third favorite schools, too. The application process is fairly simple as UB accepts The Common Application many of you may have already filled out. Best of luck throughout the end of your college search.
