SUNY Financial Aid Day at UB scheduled for Feb. 21

SUNY Financial Aid Day at the University at Buffalo will be held Saturday, February 21, 2009, in the Undergraduate Library, 201 Capen Hall. Two sessions are available, beginning at 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Each session will provide prospective students and their families assistance with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as well as information about financial aid sources and the award process. Six UB Faculty Members Named SUNY Distinguished Professors

Six UB faculty members have been named SUNY Distinguished Professors, the highest faculty rank in the State University of New York system.

Appointed by the SUNY Board of Trustees were Frank V. Bright, UB Distinguished Professor and A. Conger Goodyear Professor in the Department of Chemistry; David Felder, Birge Cary Chair in the Department of Music; Bruce A. Holm, professor in the departments of Pediatrics, Gynecology and Obstetrics, and Pharmacology and Toxicology, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences; William J. Jusko, UB Distinguished Professor in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences; Mulchand S. Patel, UB Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biochemistry in the medical school; and William E. Pelham Jr., UB Distinguished Professor in the departments of Psychology, Pediatrics, and Psychiatry. Find out more.

UB Beats Ball State to Claim MAC Football Championship

Perhaps no one nationally thought the University at Buffalo could defeat unbeaten and #12 ranked Ball State in the Mid-American Championship at Ford Field on Friday night. But somebody forgot to tell the Bulls. Read more.

Read ESPN’s Story About a UB Football Team That Made a Difference

In 1958, the University at Buffalo’s football team won eight of nine regular-season games and was awarded the Lambert Cup as the best small-school program in the eastern United States. The Bulls were then invited to face Florida State in the Tangerine Bowl in Orlando, Fla. 

Shortly thereafter, the university learned that the team’s two African-American players, starting halfback Willie Evans and reserve defensive end Mike Wilson, were not welcome in Orlando. It was left to the team to decide whether to accept the bid. The players gathered in a basement room of UB’s Clark Gymnasium to vote by paper ballot. But before the ballots were passed out, the players unanimously rejected the bid. Read more.
