This journal is an archive of the experiences of a UB student in the 2007-2008 school year; it’s no longer being updated. If you’d like to read about some current UB students, please check out this year’s bloggers.
Well, I think it’s about time that I wrap things up here. I already graduated a while ago now!
It’s been really interesting posting on this blog. I wasn’t sure that I’d be able to find things to write about in this blog, but I think it’s gone pretty well. I hope this blog has been interesting to somebody out there.
I’ve enjoyed having this blog enough that I plan to start my own personal blog in the near future. Once I have it up and running, I’ll make one more post on here with a link to it so that anybody who’s been following this blog can find their way there if they’d like to do so.
To everybody (or anybody) out there: thanks for reading!
Last night on my way to Wegmans I noticed that one of my headlights was out. Luckily, Wegmans isn’t too far from my house, so I didn’t get pulled over or anything. Today I changed the bulb. I kinda like fixing little car stuff like that. It reminds me of electronics or computers; there’s no real way to learn about it other than trying it and figuring it out.
The bulb was halogen, which is the kind of light that you can’t touch because it gets so hot that the oil from your skin could cause it to break. I think the lights we used in film and video classes were also halogens, because I remember hearing similar warnings about touching the bulbs. I think it’s interesting when things overlap like that.
As I mentioned in that last post, here are some of the pictures when I was walking around a while back.

Anybody do anything cool for Memorial Day? I never really do. Especially since I’ve been in college, it’s like Memorial Day barely exists because the semester’s already over.
The other day, the way the sun was coming through the clouds was really nice looking, so I took some pictures. They’re still on my camera though… I keep forgetting to get them off of it. I’ll post a bunch of them sometime soon! They also give a nice view of what it looks like around where I live, so that could be interesting to people who aren’t from around here.
Earlier this week, I went to Glen Park in Williamsville with my girlfriend after getting some tasty ice cream (peanut butter flavor!) at Sweet Jenny’s. She took a ton of pictures at the park, and a lot of them came out really nicely.

It felt weird to not have homework to do on a Sunday night. I guess I would have felt the same way last Sunday, but since it was graduation I was kind of preoccupied. I certainly don’t mind not having homework to do, but it’s still a little bit strange.
I’d been looking for a water bottle lately, which proved quite difficult, I think because of the whole thing with Nalgene bottles being recalled because of potentially toxic plastic. I told my mom about it, and she pulled out some water bottle she had sitting in a cupboard and gave it to me. It was pretty much exactly what I was looking for! It’s funny how things work out that way sometimes.
I watched two cool movies today: Mothra vs. Godzilla and Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone. I’m continuing to nerd it up quite well, as you can see.
Anyone out there play Scrabuluous? Lately I’ve been having a lot of fun playing a few games. You don’t even need Facebook to play it, you can just do it by email. I didn’t know that!
(Whoops, wrote this post yesterday, but accidentally saved it instead of publishing it!)
I haven’t been up to much lately other than looking for a job. I’ve found some opportunities and applied for them. Let’s see how things go! I hope I can get a job soon. Not knowing what I’m going to be doing is kind of stressful. (It’ll be even more stressful if I’ve actually applied for a lot of jobs and not gotten any offers…here’s hoping things don’t work out that way!)
Other than that, I’ve mostly been doing the usual assortment of dorky stuff like playing Mario Kart Wii and Rock Band and watching the Transformers cartoon from the 80s.
As far as school goes, my grades are all finally in. Pretty much what I expected. I wasn’t particularly concerned about them, but it was getting frustrating checking every day to see if they were submitted yet. On the other hand, I won an award from my department (Media Study) that has a cash scholarship, and the money was supposed to be available in the first week of May. It’s the third week and I still don’t have it! That’s probably the last of my unfinished academic-related business.
So, I graduated today.

I still don’t really know what to think.
I finally completed a portfolio site for myself containing links to a lot of work that I’ve done.
You can see it here: Matthew Licata’s Portfolio / Website
Any comments would be much appreciated!
I have a lot of graduation-related stuff coming up. Pretty busy!
I don’t think I ever wrote about it in this blog before, but Super War In Iraq is a project I was working on all semester for Advanced Digital Arts. It’s a hack of the original Super Mario Bros, inserting a political message. I could talk about it at length, but I feel like I’ve said it all so many times already. It was playable at our art show (which was called FAIL) a couple weeks back, and I finally got a video of the game online.
If you’d like, you can check it out here: Super War In Iraq.
