If volunteering was offered as a major, I would be enrolled in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, though, that isn’t a very lucrative “occupation”.

Most people that know me know that I love to volunteer. Today, all of the girls on the swim team and I went to Hope Lodge, in downtown Buffalo, as a community service project. Hope Lodge is run by the American Cancer Society and offers lodging at no cost for cancer patients being treated in the Buffalo area.

At the lodge, we divvied up into groups and took on several different tasks. A few girls shined some silver, another group cleaned walls and windows, and a larger group baked some treats for the patients! It was a very rewarding experience and it was great to be able to give back right here in our own Buffalo community.

Organizations like the American Cancer Society rely on volunteers in order to be able to offer services such as Hope Lodge. I encourage you to get out and give back to your community- it feels great!
