Back to Buff

I cannot believe it, but my internship is over. My last day of work was on Monday. I will be in D.C. until Friday- but I just cannot believe that this semester is over. I had an absolutely amazing experience. I have learned so much about myself and my abilties. I can confidently say that when I am done with college I will be ready to enter the work force without any question of my abilities.

The past week I was lucky enough to attend NAFAC- Navel Academy Foreign Affairs Conference. The theme of the conference was global poverty. Both the roundtables and the speakers revolved around the theme of bridging the global poverty gap. The conference itself was not that great but it was a lot of fun to hang out with my friends and go around Annoplis. Probably the coolest part of conference was sailing on the Cheaspeake.

I really enjoyed everything I have done in D.C. and I am so happy that I decided to come here. It is going to be very strange to be back in Buffalo.

Back from Boston

As you can guess by the title…I am back from Boston! And boy what a trip it was. I flew in on Thursday morning and my supervisor immedately had work for me to do. I had to finalize the volunteer plan for the volunteers who were working at the AGM. I spent the rest of the day organizing every final detail that need to be organized which included stuffing name tags, program folders and other small tasks that only an intern could complete.

Once the conference started on Friday everything just flew by. Most of my time during the conference was spent cordinating the volunteers so they knew which room they had to be in during what time and what their specific volunteer task was. Much of time was also spent running back and forth from “Copy Cop” which (as you can guess by its name) was a copy place. There were tons of random documents that need copies so I was continually running back and forth from the hotel to the copy place. There was also a lot of time spent chatting with the employees of Amnesty International that worked at other Amnesty offices in the various regions. I got to know the southern regional director pretty well and was able to ask her about her career path. I also spoke to some of the northern region staff and asked about their roles within Amnesty. I also was in charge of monitoring all of the AV equipment to make sure that no one took the AV equipment that belongs to Amnesty.

After the meeting I was supposed to leave on Sunday but of course my flight from Philadelphia was canceled. I spent another night in Boston and was even upgraded to first class (woot woot).

Overall the meeting was an incredible and difficult experience. I was on my feet for about 12 hours each day doing lots of running around and I have to say I found it extremely enjoyable. I love being busy and this meeting personified busy to the Nth degree.

I was lucky enough to get Monday and Tuesday off (and I took Wendnesday off as my own personal day) so I was able to catch up on sleep and the other things that needed to get done around the apartment.
