Happy Halloween!!

Ever since I was a little kid I have LOVED Halloween. Next to my birthday, Halloween is my favorite holiday. I can recall roaming the streets of Cleveland, Trick or Treating for my favorite candy and dressed up as whatever creative Halloween costume my mom came up with. Even in High School my friends and I would dress up for school on Halloween.

Now that I am in college, my feelings about Halloween have not changed. Many of my professor will hand out the fun sized candy bars. UB goes all out. They make one of the big meeting rooms in the Student Union into the “Haunted Student Union”. I have yet to go and experience it but I always hear people screaming as I walk by. They also have a bunch of fun stations of Halloween themed activities in the main part of the Student Union. Last year (and this year) they have a “make your own candy apple station”, a costume contest, a “decorate a Halloween cookie” station, pumpkin carving and much much much more. Last year they showed the movie Rocky Horror Picture Show at midnight, which if you have never been to a showing of Rocky Horror Picture show, you are missing out. It is sooooo much fun. (Everything, including the movie is free for Undergraduate students)

Everything starts at noon so right after I am done writing this blog you can guess where I am running off to.  Otherwise tonight will be really fun, a bunch of my friends are having Halloween parties so I’m really excited for everything.

And I know everyone is wondering what I am dressing up as this year…..a mad scientists! Cute, right? Well, I hope everyone has a great Halloween and eats a lot of candy!

An Ode to Wegmans

So for the past few days I haven’t had shampoo to use. You might be thinking- eww Steph no body wants to hear about that but I promise there is a point to my story. So like I was saying, I had no shampoo and I also ran out of food to pack for lunch and fresh vegetables that I like to snack on. My first thought was panic….oh man I am going to have to run from one side ofAmherst to the other to get all of things I need. From Tops, to Target and then who knows where. But then I realized…WEGMANS! Duh! Its the all you need store. It has everything a girl could ever dream of. From delish sushi to everyday cosmetic products.

I only go on such a rant because back in Cleveland, we don’t have a Wegmans. I even have a sneaking suspicion that one of the main reasons my mom comes to visit me here in Buffalo is to go to that grocery store of the gods. So, if you are torn between another school and UB….keep in mind, there is a Wegmans literally five minutes from campus.

Well- other than my dedication to my favorite grocery store all is going well. My birthday weekend was great and this next week is the calm before the storm…I have a ton of exams and papers after this week so I’m going to enjoy the quiet for a bit.

Also thanks for the b-day shout out Lynlee (I know you are reading this right now)

Tomorrows the big day!!

So I am soooo excited for tomorrow cause its my b-day!! That’s right everybody….twenty one years ago everyones life was changed for the better because I came into the world….jk I’m just being silly cause I am soooooooo excited!!lio

Today in the office of admissions my co worker Lynlee was really sweet and decorated the office and made me a cake. It was DELICIOUS!!! I mean how can anything made out of chocolate be bad….

Anyway, tonight a bunch of my friends are coming over. Right now my friends Lyndsey and I are watching the Sex and The City movie for the 1 billionth time because my roomate got it for me for my birthday. It never gets bad! My mom sent me a bunch of birthday cards and cookies by design…which are really nice cookies in a basket. They are decorated with a birthday theme, super cute and super yummy. I feel like I might gain a million pounds by the end of this weekend. But Lynlee and I were discussing how its ok to be morbidly obese on your birthday, the calories don’t count.

Anyway, tomorrow will be a busy day, I’m going to get a mani/pedi with some friends and then dinner. It’s gonna be awesome. I just love birthday’s!!!!!! Later!

…And its fall again….

Not necessarily a bad thing though. I do love fall, especially in western NY. The leaves here are really pretty, and the fall smell is in the air. Its been slowly cooling off and my roommate and I were even forced to turn the heat on because it was a little too cold in the apartment. Oh well…the warm weather had to end sooner or later.

So if you read my post yesterday you’ll know that I’m coming back down from a very busy weekend. And next weekend will be just the same. Saturday is my birthday…yes I said it and I’ll say it again…SATURDAY IS MY BIRTHDAY! (feel free to leave lots of birthday comments) I am really excited. I have some good stuff planned. One of my really good friends is from Warsaw, NY which is about an hour from here. Its a tiny little town kind of in the middle of nowhere. She lives an a farm and we are going on Sunday. Now, why am I excited for country living? Because it’ll be awesome…pumpkin patches, four wheelin’,freshly milled cider….and the list goes on.It’ll be a nice little break from the busy streets of Buffalo.

Classes and stuff are back to normal because I’m finally done with my mid-terms. Today was my last one, American Politics in the Media. It’s nice to be done with those tests and have this week to not have to worry about tests or anything like that. It is a little scary though because in almost all of my classes I have to write a research paper which I am not looking forward too. This year I have finally learned that waiting until the last minute is an awful idea so I am going to start on those assignments MUCH sooner.

Thats about it for now. I’ll let you guys now how the Bday weekend goes.  BYYYE

Open House

So the weekend is just now ending….it was a nice lazy Sunday today, I just spent the day studying and doing laundry.

Saturday was of course open house, which was not too crazy. The day was pretty long (I had to be there at 7:45 which is not easy to do on a Saturday morning.) But otherwise the day went really well. There were a ton of perspective students there with their parents checking out all the stuff UB had to offer. It was fun to think back to the open house I went to when I was looking at schools. I remember coming to UB for open house with my mom and getting lost on campus. I thought it was so huge and scary….it feels like that was decades ago…. It was also family weekend this weekend so there were a ton of people all over campus. It was so much fun! The football team won their homecoming game against Army which is flippin’ awesome!!! Friday night they had a homecoming carnival and of course my friend and I went- have I told you how much I love free food? cause it basically tastes better then food you pay for and it just so happened that there was a ton of free food at the carnival.

Otherwise thats about it. The birthday countdown has begun though…..6 more days!!! SOOOO excited!

So I was kidding about it being cold outside….

I totally lied about it being fall here because the weather is absolutely beautiful. Its warm and sunny and fantastic! Lovvvveees it!

So back to my life. I just got my mid term back from Human Rights and I am so happy to say that I did really well. I worked my butt of studying for it so it feels good, like I got the grade I deserved for all the work I put into the course. Thats what you learn when you come to college, if you put enough work in you’ll get what you need out (ie good grades)

This week has again been pretty busy. I got into a little fender bender Tuesday night and had to miss Lynlee’s birthday dinner (make sure to wish her a happy happy birthday!) But everyone involved is ok…except for my car, it has a nice booboo on the front of my bumper. As long as no one is hurt thats all that really matters.

So all in all….nothing really new or exciting has been going on. Like I have been saying for a while this weekend is open house so Saturday is going to be crazy busy with all the people coming to open house and the homecoming football game and parents weekend. Although my parents are coming in the weekend, a bunch of my friends parents are coming in so they are all offering to take me out to dinner and go to the parents weekend activities.

Thats about it for now! I’ll let you guys know how open house went this weekend! Laters

A day off

Hey guys!

Today is Yom Kippor so that means that we have the day off. Which is a welcomed little break. I have a lot of reading to catch up on so I really need to take the opportunity to get stuff done. Like I said earlier, my life has been consumed with tests for the past few days.

I watched the presidential debate the other night and was not shocked by the outcome. It was however very fun to discuss the nights proceedings with my coworkers in the office of admissions.  Its really fun because everyone in the office has a different view so it makes for an interesting argument. In other news office news, we have been busy getting ready for open house (which is on October 18).

This weekend will be pretty quiet. My parents are coming into town for the weekend so I’ll get to hang out with them, which is always fun. Otherwise thats about it. I’ll keep you guys up on everything thats happening.

I take a lot of tests.

Today was the day of exams. So it all started this morning at 6:30 when I woke up for my first exam of the day. The first one was my human rights exam, which I have spent the past two weeks studying for. I am determined to get an A in that class! The test wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be, I am confident that I did decently well. Then at 12:30 I had my WS 205 test which also wasn’t as bad as I expected. Its good to get those two exams out of my way. Only 3 more to go and then I’ll have a little break from tests for a few weeks.

This Thursday we don’t have school because its Yom Kippur so it’ll be  a nice little break in the week and I’l have that day to study for my Stats test on Friday. Otherwise, everything is pretty quiet in the world of Stephanie Cohen. I’m getting really excited about going to DC because my roomate and I finally found someone to sublet the apartment while we are both gone second semester. Tonight should be exciting because its the second Presidential debate so of course I am going to watch it.

SEEE ya.
