Dear Pillow, I’ll see you again eventually

This weekend has been one constant activity after another. I haven’t stopped going since yesterday morning at 10 o’clock and it’s only Saturday, the weekend is only halfway over.

On Friday after a full day at work I took a friend out to dinner for her 21st birthday that was on Wednesday. It was great to get to see her. She’s someone I have always respected and admired for her values so it was great to get to catch up. Then I went straight onto duty with an RA who I adore. Although I had a little resentment towards him when he got to sit and watch downloaded episodes of TV shows and I slaved away on work for the five hours that we are on duty. I have a pretty big exam on Tuesday which I’m not ready for at all but hopefully after another 5 hours of work tonight and some hard work for the next couple of days and I’ll be there.

This morning started out at 6:10 when I got up to get ready for my last football recruiting tour. I’m sad that those tours are over because I’ve really enjoyed working with the football staff and meeting all of the new guys. After that I went straight to help out with RA individual interviews. That was another cool experience. I haven’t gotten the chance to be on the other side of the interview desk in a while and it was nice for once to be the one asking the questions. We were only required to work one shift but of course, due to a very annoying personality characteristic that I so kindly acquired from my mother, I volunteered to help out with an extra one. So I will be back at the group process interviews tomorrow morning at 8:30.

I’m looking forward to Sunday afternoon to some much needed nap-time and then being able to sit back and enjoy the Superbowl. Hope everyone is staying bundled warm!! :-)

Relaxation

This weekend had one theme and that theme was relaxation. It was beautiful. I spent most of the weekend doing a billion odds and ends that I never have time to get done during the week. I finished up the Twilight series and to anyone that is interested, my favorite book by far was the third one, Eclipse. I’m glad I’m done with the books though because I was so addicted to them that I probably would have put off some hardcore studying in order to read them so it’s better for everyone that I can put them down. I’ve already started making my list of books I want to read over the summer! ((Any suggestions feel free to forward them my way!!))

One of the things I spent some time doing this weekend is catching up with all of my friends who are studying abroad. I have four close friends who have left UB this semester for their study abroad programs. Two in Madrid, Spain, one in London, and of course my fellow blogger and other half Steph who is down in Washington DC. It’s been awesome to keep up with them via e-mails because it gives us a chance to sit down and write about basically everything in our lives without being interrupted or having to explain things you don’t want to. It’s also a lot of fun to receive an e-mail and be able to spend some time reading about all of the amazing experiences that they are having. My jealous side just wants them all back in Buffalo as soon as possible so that we can continue having awesome memories together.

I’m excited to put my new schedule into effect this week. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it does help with my stress level! Speaking of I should probably get some more reading done. Hope everyone has an awesome beginning of the week! :-)

Without You

Happy MLK Jr Day!! What an awesome first weekend back!! I couldn’t have asked for anything more and then with the university closed today I was even able to catch up on some sleep!

On Friday night I hooked up with some of my friends from freshman year. It was awesome to be able to see them since we’re all kind of spread out in our living arrangements and I really don’t get to see them as much as I’d like. I even got to have a sleepover (yes, even 20 year olds still have sleepovers!) with one of my suite-mates from freshman year and one of my best friends. It was a great time and I think we both really enjoyed getting to catch up. And than on Saturday night I was able to hang out with a different group of friends. It’s nice being able to see how everyone’s break went and what their plans are for the coming semester, especially since it’s so hard to get all of us together at once.

On Sunday afternoon my life was made complete. A former OA and I had tickets to see the musical Rent at Shea’s Performing Arts Theater in downtown Buffalo. First, the venue is GORGEOUS. It’s an old theater and it’s just so pretty with all of the old architecture. Secondly, I couldn’t have asked for a better performance. Two of the original actors from the Broadway show preformed and the rest of the cast was just as good. It took everything in me to not break out into song along with them, but I refrained myself, much to the pleasure of the rest of the theater I’m sure.

I also spent Sunday night re-working my schedule. I have had just a downright awful time with it, for the first time in my college career. Much of it was my own fault, putting unnecessary stress on myself but what’s new?!  But after a lot of working and re-working I’ve decided to only go  to my internship two days for 6 hours instead of trying to commute from downtown to North Campus three days a week. I also got rid of a Psych class but picked up a 400-level Interpersonal Psych class that I think I’m really going to like (sorry Mom!). So hopefully everything works itself out!

Right now I’m going to go set up for a program {yum, ice cream!}! Have a nice day off to those who have it!!

A suburban girl in the “big” city!

The first couple days of the semester have passed and let me say this is going to be probably my busiest semester of my college career ((even though I probably say that EVERY semester)). My schedule is jam packed from early in the morning to late at night some days, it’s definitely going to take some getting use to. BUT my proud moment of the year so far came the other day when I successfully took the Metro into downtown Buffalo all by myself! :-D Now some may not see this as an accomplishment but to a VERY suburban girl like myself I was quite excited! I’ve now got two full days of Metro-riding under my belt and I’m beginning to see myself as a city girl. ;-)

Speaking of downtown, my internship is A-mazing! What an awesome experience this is going to be! On Monday I spent the first part of the morning in Part 1 and Part 2 of the Supreme Court, where everyone who has been arrested gets arraigned. And then spent the second half of the morning shadowing a case worker while she interviewed clients, since that is eventually going to be one of my tasks. Than this morning I spent most my time in Mental Health Court and then shadowed a few interviews. The people at the program are just so helpful and so eager to teach me everything I want to know. The Project Manager even sat me down for a good twenty minutes just to get to know what I was looking to get out of the experience and what I was hoping to do with my career. It’s really an amazing opportunity and I can’t wait till the unfamiliar beginning is over and I really know what I’m doing.

My other classes are pretty good so far. My Social Cognition class is just an extension of my favorite psych class from last year Social Psych so I’m really excited about that (and the professor has an adorable Southern accent so that can’t hurt either). Other than that nothing exciting is taking place in Buffalo because it’s too cold to do anything. The temperature has dropped to the disgusting single digits, even during the day. Next week is suppose to be back up to the upper 20’s so we’ll be able to get excited for a heat wave!

A space of your own

I’ve been back in Michael Hall for two days and I never thought I’d say I’d be happy to be back here but I am. After spending a week bouncing from couch to couch it was nice to finally have five minutes to myself.

This past week was MUCH busier than I thought it was going to be but it was also a lot of fun! I worked SO much in Admissions because we are crazy busy with all of the new applications for next fall. I was also the only Student Assistant that was there all week so the jobs that usually three or five of us split up I had to try and tackle on my own. On Tuesday two of my really good friends and I headed to the Galleria to see the movie Twilight ((again, for the second time)) ! As with most girls in the world I have quickly become obsessed with the book series so seeing the movie multiple times was just a given.

The past couple of days have been RA training. Just like a day and a half of a lot of business-y things like creating our duty schedule, picking a time for a weekly staff meeting and also getting to know our newest RA on our staff! I had duty with him last night and he seems like a really cool guy, definitely someone that will fit right in with the rest of us!

I also just bought a friend and I tickets to Rent, the musical. It’s coming to Shea’s Performing  Arts Center in downtown Buffalo and as an avid fan I obviously wasn’t going to give up the opportunity to go! Especially since two of the original actors from Broadway show are going to be performing! I can’t wait!

Well the residence halls just opened up so I’m going to head out and start seeing how all of my resident’s breaks went! I’m so excited for this semester to start! :-)

2009-Oh how fine!

Wow! It feels like just yesterday that we were ringing in 2008! This year has gone by SO fast and has been one of the biggest roller-coaster years of my life thus far! I can’t wait to see what this next year has in store for me! I hope everyone had an awesome ((and safe)) New Years, and Christmas for that matter, since I haven’t checked in since then!

New Years at my house is always an entertaining time. My parents have held a party here for as long as I can remember and this year was no different. Although this year the weather held some people hostage in their own house’s ((it seems like the snow is never ending!)) we still rang in the new year surrounded with people that we love and had an awesome time catching up!

I’ve spent the last two days walking around the house gathering all of my different Christmas presents and clothes that I’ve thrown everywhere as tomorrow a friend and I are heading back to Buffalo. The football boys in blue are getting ready to play UConn on Saturday up in Toronto and there are a bunch of us heading up there to cheer them on! It should be an awesome game and we’re gearing up for a good time!

It has been awesome being home. To just relax with my sisters or hang out with my parents has been something that I have totally missed. I’m looking forward to getting back and getting busy again but I would love if I could spend just a little bit more time at home, I’m not sure I’m ready to leave yet. :-( BUT I should head and get together the last couple of little things before calling it a night! *Go Bulls*
